2017 President's Welcome

Skip BrueWelcome to San Antonio and the Lone Star State,

My wife, Pam and I extend a very warm welcome to you, as we hope to greet you in person in San Antonio in April.

It has been a long time coming – NAHAD last met in Texas in 1999, 18 years ago – and we have exciting plans for our time in the great state of Texas!

First and foremost, our host property, the JW Marriott Hill Country Resort in San Antonio, has all of the features that NAHAD members have appreciated over the years: a great meetings facility with close proximity to the sleeping rooms which allows our members to connect in the elevators, at the lobby bar and on the outside walkways, fire pits and patios; outstanding guest services and plenty of recreational facilities.

To kick off our program on Sunday, April 2nd, we plan an industry panel who will take a deep dive into the Latest NAW/IBM study Facing the Forces of Change: Navigating the Seas of Disruption. The study and our member panelists will address the many challenges of the distribution channel in 2017 – tightening margins, fluctuating customer demands, economic uncertainty and changing technology. Please plan your arrival in plenty of time to hear this discussion and then jump right into our newest networking opportunity in small groups. Based upon NAHAD's Fish Bowl Networking model, we will break into round table discussions to learn from each other about creative ways to address these future challenges.

TexasOur UID-in-a-Day program has proved to be very valuable to attendees over the years. Please take advantage of the offerings on Monday. In response to your suggestions, the UID presentations will include sales expertise, technology tools, managing your human resources and preparing for the workforce of the future. You can use your attendance to earn credits towards a Certificate in Innovative Distribution from Purdue University.

I continue to be mindful and appreciative of the many contributions that NAHAD members have made to making my business stronger every year. I have been attending the annual NAHAD convention for over 17 years and the number of tips that I have learned from speakers, best practice suggestions that I have gained from networking conversations, and the generous camaraderie which yielded life-long friendships and which has been and continues to be invaluable. The NAHAD Annual convention is where business gets done and where each of us is able to Make All the Right Connections!

With a plethora of offerings, from educational opportunities to golf and tours, fun social events for networking, I encourage you and other members of your team to sign up and join us in Texas. It may very well be the best decision that you make in 2017. See you in San Antonio!

Sincerely,

Skip Bruce
